This is the fifth studio recording by Northwest Alt-folk Americana artist, Jean Mann. Continuing the rich, musical story set in motion the day her mother passed away in 1999, her passion for expressing the big and small events of life is clearly intact.
Recorded at iconic Studio Litho in Seattle, WA (Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, The Head and The Heart), between the rocks and stars moves the listener through a fantastic song-scape, twanging the heart while strumming the soul.
A myriad of musical styles inform her voice. This collection of songs was written and performed on acoustic and tenor guitars, tenor and baritone ukuleles and harmonica.
Returning session players include: Tom and Virginia Dziekonski - string arrangements Matt Hopper -upright bass Wayne Horvitz - piano and Hammond B3 organ Amy Denio - clarinet
New to the happy mix: David Keenan - banjo Ruthie Dornfeld - fiddle Alicia Healey - bass, guitars, backing vocals
All flesh out an impressive textural array that has become a trademark of Jean’s soundtrack.
With the co-producing ear of engineer and fellow singer-songwriter Alicia Healey, Mann has upped the musical ante, crafting a sophisticated legacy to be proud of. Truly a work of art.
MORE: Since 2000, Jean has toured fairly constantly, locally and nationally, headlining house concerts, PNW festivals, and playing such iconic rooms as Yoshi's in San Francisco, the Tractor Tavern in Seattle, and CBGB's in New York. She has opened for Peter Himmelman and Blame Sally, and shared the stage with Laura Veirs (Rounder Records) and Vicci Martinez (The Voice). She has garnered fans the likes of Cyndi Lauper and jazz sensation, Jacqui Naylor. It's no wonder. Jean gains hordes of happy ears wherever she performs her lilting musical prose; a truly soul-quenching voice in today's independent music scene.
