The result is this new body of work, the complement to jean’s sixth release, “road girl vol1”. Also available on CDBABY.

This is a "studio-enhanced live" album- the first of this variety project for jean mann. Taken from her many live house concert, acoustic listening rooms, waters edge and campsite recordings (and one-takes home recordings), she then took the raw recordings to Froglips studio in Seattle Washington (Bill Corral, engineer) simply planning to "clean up" the tracks for release. The first diversion from that plan was, "How about a little harmony vocal added here?" Which organically led to inviting back some of her favorite musicians from previous projects (and a few new characters to the musical play!) to add their gorgeous additions: strings, banjo, percussion, guitar layers, resulting in this beautiful new album. jean hasn't missed a beat in her songwriting and expression of her world in prose. Enjoy. Pass it on responsibly/ethically.

The 5th original collection by NW Alt-folk Americana artist- exquisite vocals on acoustic, tenor guitars, tenor and baritone ukuleles

This is the fifth studio recording by Northwest Alt-folk Americana artist, Jean Mann. Continuing the rich, musical story set in motion the day her mother passed away in 1999, her passion for expressing the big and small events of life is clearly intact.

Recorded at iconic Studio Litho in Seattle, WA (Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, The Head and The Heart), between the rocks and stars moves the listener through a fantastic song-scape, twanging the heart while strumming the soul.

A myriad of musical styles inform her voice. This collection of songs was written and performed on acoustic and tenor guitars, tenor and baritone ukuleles and harmonica.

Returning session players include: Tom and Virginia Dziekonski - string arrangements Matt Hopper -upright bass Wayne Horvitz - piano and Hammond B3 organ Amy Denio - clarinet

New to the happy mix: David Keenan - banjo Ruthie Dornfeld - fiddle Alicia Healey - bass, guitars, backing vocals

All flesh out an impressive textural array that has become a trademark of Jean’s soundtrack.

With the co-producing ear of engineer and fellow singer-songwriter Alicia Healey, Mann has upped the musical ante, crafting a sophisticated legacy to be proud of. Truly a work of art.

MORE: Since 2000, Jean has toured fairly constantly, locally and nationally, headlining house concerts, PNW festivals, and playing such iconic rooms as Yoshi's in San Francisco, the Tractor Tavern in Seattle, and CBGB's in New York. She has opened for Peter Himmelman and Blame Sally, and shared the stage with Laura Veirs (Rounder Records) and Vicci Martinez (The Voice). She has garnered fans the likes of Cyndi Lauper and jazz sensation, Jacqui Naylor. It's no wonder. Jean gains hordes of happy ears wherever she performs her lilting musical prose; a truly soul-quenching voice in today's independent music scene.

Noted alt-folk indie-pop singer songwriter, Seattle-based Jean Mann has a lot to write and sing about. Having toured extensively since releasing her first album, blossom (2000), this innovative, self-taught performer shares her soulful, lovely and gritty-honest tales woven through the voice of an angel. Her vocal prowess, combined with eclectic instrument playing (de-tuned acoustic 6-string and tenor guitars, harmonica and ukulele), results in the homey, intimate feeling of sitting around a kitchen table with close friends.

Jean has released four albums since she began pouring out her world in song, beginning September 1999, the very day her mother passed away. Along the road of that life-changing event, came more life, love, a stolen vintage Gibson guitar and enough broken hearts to fill a country western album. A cache of beautifully arranged songs and an empowered voice emerged through it all.

Her second release, seasons, (2004) blooms with musical story-spinning and brought her to Brendan Hill (Blues Traveler), who produced and played percussion on the project. In September 2009, ten years after she began her musical journey, Jean accomplished her longest road tour to date, circling the perimeter of the U.S. (10,000 miles), performing 22 shows in 5 weeks, drawing from her entire catalogue, including her third album, daisies and fire (2007). A whirlwind tour boot camp for Jean and a tour mate, and her faithful road dog, sunny. daisies and fire boasts such guest players as composer Wayne Horvitz and was featured on Seattle's public radio station KUOW where Jean was interviewed by Dave Beck.

Jean has headlined at many Pacific Northwest festivals, played iconic rooms such as Yoshi's lounge in San Francisco, the Tractor Tavern in Seattle, and CBGB's in New York. She has opened for national acts Peter Himmelman and San Francisco-based Blame Sally. She has garnered fans the likes of Cyndi Lauper and jazz sensation, Jacqui Naylor. It's no wonder. Jean gains hordes of happy ears wherever she performs her lilting musical prose, whether solo or as a duo with fellow multi-instrumental musician, Bill Corral. Jean and Bill share a camaraderie that for the past seven years has evolved into one of those rare musical partnerships that is at once intimate and light-hearted. Bill has engineered, recorded, co-produced and played a multitude of instruments on Jean's two latest-released albums at his Seattle recording studio, froglips.

Jean Mann is a truly soul-quenching force in today's independent music scene.

In spring 2011, Jean will begin touring in support of her newest release, dream of goats. To bring her to your living room or back yard for a HOUSE CONCERT, contact Jean via www.jeanmann.net

BIO Jean Mann was raised in a picture book brick house on Lake Whatcom in Bellingham, Washington, creatively stuffed into a 2+ bedroom house with 6 siblings, many cats, dogs, gerbils and a goat...your basic urban farm. Now based in Seattle in a historic cottage with just one small gray cat, she considers Seattle to be her second hometown and a little too big for this small-town girl.

Before her guitar days began, Jean had taught herself on a funky old $65 purple piano her mom bought for the family on Valentine's day (1976), and when she moved out to pursue life, had to leave the bulky musical beast behind. After picking up the guitar (1996), she began plucking out songs, teaching herself with songbooks ala Neil Young, Bonnie Raitt etc, and wrote her first song. on 9/9/1999, the day her mother passed away. Only then did she truly begin to hear and realize her own voice and a passionate, soulful calling to the world of songwriting.

"I've always been a believer that the heart and soul speak in simple languages, including the languages of music. Jean Mann proves this to be true by the brilliant design of her music." -Michael Allison, The Global Muse

post house concert blog: Last night, we joined Jen Forceful and Sunni-V (and wa whole mess of other folks) for a house concert at Linda S and Mike's place with Jean Mann.

Otis and I had gone to a previous house concert by Jean last June. That was a great time, and this time was just as big a treat. Jean played guitar and sang, and was accompanied by her sideman-sidekick Bill on bass, mandolin, slide guitar, and accordion. Jean performed mostly original tunes, including two numbers (that will appear on her new CD) that got their "world debut" perfomances last night; she also covered some songs by the likes of Steve Miller, Bonnie Raitt, and Joan Osborne (and I think Jean's version of "One of Us" is just fantastic).

The music is what I would call folk-rock if I had to put a label on it, but that's a bit reductive: the song "Pink" has a haiku-like elegance in the lyrics and some vocal bits that are reminiscent of the best of Tracy Chapman; "The Dance" is a haunting waltz which could easily have been lifted from the soundtrack of a French art film. Whether opening with a playful rendition of "Space Cowboy" or introducing her ephemeral "Daisies and Fire," Jean's vocal control and evocative phrasings were captivating. I'd certainly sit her at the same table with Sarah Harmer and Nekko Case at my musical cafe. Check out Jean's website and pick up one of her CDs. It's good stuff that has earned its place in our rotation."

"I am enjoying the CD(Seasons) I purchaced at the lavender fest on Saturday. It was a good thing my downstairs neighbor was out that night. I was blasting your CD and dancing with my cat at one in the morning." -Anneliese

Jean Mann: Seasons April 2004 By: Sara Zeno soundaffects.net

The airy music and vocals of Jean Mann's Seasons offer a welcome simplicity in our world of continuous noise. Her songs live in a world inhabited by the constant and enchanting presence of the moon, sun, water and trees. Without interruption or flourishes, Mann's lilting (and sometimes haunting) voice muses over the undiluted structure of acoustic guitar.

The Dance, a waltz that invokes visions of the old world, opens the album. It includes the evocative sounds of mandolin and cello, performed by Beau Gordinier and Kim Blanchard, respectively. Their talents pepper Seasons with nostalgia-flavored sounds.

Mann's perspective distinctively colors her songs. Blue Trees, written in remembrance of a friend, allows spirit to shine through loss:

I always know where you are / In mountain mist, a breeze on high carries you home / A drop in the river, in the vein of the earth / Ever flowing on. And all is at peace in your world.

In The World, which Mann refers to as her "love note to the world," gently nudges:

It's always easier for me when the sun shines bright / And the sparkles lay across the water / Hey, I figure if they can dance so, just think what I can do with the day.

Seasons jingles and meanders with possibility:

Spring springs ahead, and still the snow is falling down on my head / But wait a minute, that's pink petals scattered on the ground / Outside, the season of love abounds.

In lieu of silence, Mann's music exudes a quiet peace. Seasons is as soothing as a forest stream By: Sara Zeno

about the artist:

Seattle-based Jean Mann is a noted singer songwriter, guitarist, multi media artist/craftswoman, and chef. A renaissance woman in a modern day world, Jean's self-taught, "alternafolk" has been compared to Ani DiFranco, Norah Jones and Dar Williams. However, with the release of her new cd, Seasons, she is emerging as a voice all her own. "Simple, yet sophisticated... sweet, personal and real."(Hipfish)

The album project: Recorded independently between 2001-2003, the project was co-produced and engineered by Blues Traveler's Brendan Hill. Introduced by a mutual friend, Mann and Hill decided to work together. As Hill was touring more often than not, the project took a while to complete, starting in one studio locale and finishing in another. The result: Seasons is a snippet of history in a body of work, encompassing as much about life, as events unfolding over the time of the recording project. In lieu of lyrics in the liner notes, a chronology appears, with lyrics available at Jean's website: www.jeanmann.com/music.html

The music swells with textures of cello, mandolin, vocal self-harmonies and other "voices" created by Jean with homespun instruments: tinkly bells on "color of your soul", basket with tiny cow bells on "tell me", pre-snipped guitar strings on "blue trees", and Jean's Gibson '66 J-50, as bass line on "seasons".

the players: Jean Mann: co-producer, vocals, guitars, percussion Kim Blanchard: cello Beau (frisky fingers) Gordinier: mandolin Brendan Hill: Isabella Studios Seattle, WA engineer, co-producer, mixer mover and shaker Mastered at Ironwood Studios Donn Devore, engineer Rowan Moore: CD design Photography: Debbie Mc Gibbon, Jean Mann original art: Jean Mann

It was a wonderful evening, full and complete in the combination of musical styles and harmony (in more ways than melodic!) It is a joy to experience yourself through various artistic mediums ~ thanks for sharing so much of yourself! -Sarah McEvoy

Bravo! Bravo! Truly a magical evening...well thought out, planned and presented...you've evolved into a real showwoman...style, presence, performance and the inimmitable YOU! Thank you for sharing...and what a turnout! What a perfect evening! -Helen Tanzer
